Area Attractions

Brevard’s charming downtown scene provides eclectic eats, bakeries, art galleries, cafes, boutique shopping and handmade mountain musical instruments. In summer, step out for a summertime street dance or cut a rug at the mountain music jam sessions held year round. Other small-town fun includes a Fourth of July celebration and weekly gatherings for square dancing, line dancing and even ballroom dancing.
One of the biggest and most beautiful Brevard attractions is simply the land itself, especially in autumn, when the green mountains turn to a carpet of red and gold. Brevard abounds in unspoiled natural scenery, including Cold Mountain (not only a book and a movie but a real mountain in nearby Shining Rock Wilderness), national forests, and the abundance of waterfalls that have given the area the nickname “Land of Waterfalls.”
Twenty-five minutes away lies Asheville, a city called the “Paris of the South,” offering an opera company, the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa, national music acts, the Biltmore Estate (a French Renaissance-inspired chateau built by a Gilded Age billionaire), and a charming downtown studded with cafes and Art Deco architecture. Less than two hours away is the town of Cherokee, seat of a real-life Cherokee Indian reservation, and also home to the pleasure-dome called Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Hotel.
