Small Business

Several Brevard city/county agencies – the Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Department and the Transylvania Partnership – are specifically devoted to assisting new businesses in the Brevard area, and economic development is a prominent concern of city/county government. Local businesses looking to move to the Brevard area from outside of Transylvania County can receive free assistance from the Economic Development Department. Heart of Brevard is the city’s downtown association, offering listings of office and retail space and support to businesses in the downtown area.
The local community college, Blue Ridge Community College, has a Small Business Center. The SBC offers workshops, seminars and courses to those who are already small business owners or who are seeking to start a business. It also provides counseling, referrals, analyses, evaluations and business planning.
Twenty-five minutes away in nearby Asheville is the Mountain Microenterprise Fund, a grassroots nonprofit offering a 10-week training program as well as loans, mentorship and support.
