Cashiers North Carolina

Take a two-lane highway into a quieter world with a trip to Cashiers, a mountain village that lies not in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains but high along the southern crest of the chain. This community proudly advertises that it’s low on malls and high on weathered barns. The elevation here is 3,500 feet, and green, rolling mountains rise nearly a mile above sea level.

A sleepy, slow-paced town, Cashiers lets residents trade commuter traffic for a slow drive down Bull Pen Road, high-rise offices for mountain sunsets, and characterless and crime-ridden downtowns for quaint shops, cafes and a grassy Village Green. Cashiers is home to the second-tallest waterfall in the Eastern U.S. – the majestic, 411-foot Whitewater Falls. Golfers take note: the great Bobby Jones, the only golfer ever to win his all his Grand Slam titles in the same year, summered nearby, for reasons you’ll probably figure out immediately.
