Enka and Candler North Carolina

An unincorporated area lying just west of Asheville, the town of Candler is often mentioned in the same breath as neighboring Enka, with the two communities called “Enka/Candler.” An eclectic mixture of mountain scenery, exclusive real estate like Biltmore Lake, quiet semi-suburban neighborhoods and even a feed and seed store, Candler offers a mix of suburban and rural. Here, high school football still matters.

Healthy eaters will enjoy the just-picked apples and watercress from Jake’s Farm, a six-acre organic farm offering a vegetable stand and even a monthly subscription plan for farm-grown organic produce. Enka and Candler frankly offer little in the way of fine dining or citified amenities (drive ten minutes to Asheville for that), but they do have a few things that even Asheville doesn’t. Like a mountain resort offering Southern-style meals and horseback riding, and the woods, water and walking trails of the Lake Powhatan Recreation Area.
